I’d like to thank my friends in Incubus for the stellar opportunity to preview the opening night and first kickoff show of their summer US tour at the new Yaamava Theater in San Manuel, CA last Thursday, May 12, 2023.
I often think about what my life in music has amounted to for the past 15 years, when I was just a young teenage girl playing her guitar during slow suburban days at home alone, processing life, my emotions, and the world around me through music and all of the figures, singers, songwriters and artists saying words and expressing feelings in ways she only wished she could.
So, when a band like Incubus actively reaches out to me, I can’t help but think how humble music truly is. How the industry is pure luck and pure grit of having that magic little formula of talent, charm, grit and appeal.
I’ve still a lot to learn and a lot to explore as a young musician, writer and artist still exploring every little part of herself and knack for expression. And perhaps I’ve taken a step back to just let myself “go” and let myself live a little, after having spent so many years living, exploring and finding herself throughout her twenties.
The ways other reach out mean more to me than you know.
And I only hope to pass that feeling on.
With love and honesty,
Rachel
