Jungle’s memorable house-soul sound and striking visuals set the Hollywood Bowl ablaze

You may have heard Jungle’s feel good dance song “Back on 74” throughout the past year when their infamous one-shot dance video went viral last summer for its stellar choreography, videography, and engaging musicality. The band, formed by founding members and childhood friends Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland back in 2013, have come a long way and is now reaching the international acclaim their music greatly deserves.

Whenever an artist plays The Hollywood Bowl, it’s clear they’ve reached a significant milestone in their career. For more than 100 years, the venue has housed some of the biggest names, showcasing artistic greatness and cultural relevance, with a seating capacity of up to 18,000 guests. This past Friday night, Jungle played to a sold-out crowd, delivering their infectious house soul sound with a stunning visual production.

Opening up with their iconic 2014 single “Busy Earnin'”, with its loud synths, thunderous backbeats and roaring trumpets and organs, Jungle set the tone for the night as their lighting and visuals perfectly complemented their sound. Sleek and modern, with a sense of retro 1970s-style funk, Jungle’s collective energy and soul was felt throughout the entire Bowl.

From white strays of light bursting from the stage, to twinkly stardust showcased in tones of sunset red, the attention to visual production and aesthetics has become a big trademark of the Jungle brand. With Josh and Tom at the front, equipped with their keys, guitars and vocals, the band went on to play “Candle Flame,” featuring an appearance by rapper Erick the Architect, and “Dominoes,” led by vocalist Lydia Kitto. This lent way to the atmospheric “The Heat,” where sunset-red tones emanated from the stage, to the jungle safari-inspired vibes of “Problemz.” Lydia, with her cool vocals and shades, commanded centerstage, vibing and dancing along in pure contagious syncopation.

It’s safe to say their opening songs sent the auditorium into pure feel-good bliss. (…)
