A Week in Cabo for My Love’s Milestone Birthday

What’s a week in Cabo like?

It’s nice to look back at these memories. Time flies and moments pass before we really get a moment to take it all in. Documenting these moments will make me look back one day to relish our youth and the “good old days,” before they’re gone.

“It’s giving White Lotus,” I said as we reached the resort beach city that is Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on that Monday morning November 4th — my love’s birthday.

We flew from San Francisco, CA to Cabo San Lucas, MX that morning. The flight was short and relatively simple as I didn’t have too many belongings. It was my first time flying through customs for an “international” trip across countries.

When we arrived, I felt the thick, humid heat of Mexico hit us. It was a nice change from gloomier November days in California, as winter was near and chillier nights ensued. “When’s the last time I had some real sun and beach time?” I thought.

The first thing that happened when we arrived was that we were paraded by the most attentive service we could imagine, as service people kept calling Alex “amigo!” saying he looks so young for his age, and hotel staff and shuttle drivers quickly grabbed our luggage and tried to sell us on all the excursions and sights-to-see in Cabo during our time. We only had two full days and three nights there, so our itinerary was pretty set. As the hotel staff kept dragging on before letting us go up into our rooms to put down our luggage and eat, I felt my fatigue coming on to say, “Just let us go,” as they finally resigned and I drank my water and Alex’s complimentary cold beer (lol). We walked around the resort, finding the different dining options, bars, pools, cafe, etc. and soaked in the views as it was late afternoon already and we had only a few hours left for the sun and pool. We grabbed a late night dinner, got some drinks at the bar, and played some pool. I dropped by the resort’s cafe to get Alex a nice yummy birthday cupcake and decaf coffees (and espresso martinis!). We listened to the resort’s Monday night band play on, and slept soundly.

The next morning, we went to the resort gym (so nice and clean!) before grubbing at the resort’s Don Diego brunch. We were treated to an absolutely stacked, fresh buffet, full of classic American breakfast options as well as Mexican foods. Cafe de olla’s were absolutely delicious, as I poured mine out of a classic clay pot and was happy to try a real one for the first time. I drank lots of fresh green juice, mimosas, fresh fruits, salads, eggs. The all-inclusive food and drinks makes us so happy.

We set out on a boat ride to the Arches, enjoyed the sun and pier sights, and stayed awhile at Lover’s/Divorce Beach (lol) and swam in the shallow/er waters to avoid being drifted off into the currents of the ocean. Later that night, we made a drive out to the famed Flora Farms for a proper birthday dinner for Alex. Although it was dark and a long drive away, it was beautiful to eat and try their delicious farm-to-table food (savory squash ricotta pancakes were a win).

On our last full day on Wednesday, we had our buffet brunch and took the morning shuttle for our ATV excursion. We rode separately on our own ATVs while all the other couples and families rode in two-seaters (lol, I was the only girl riding solo and it was so fun!). I think the inner gamer girl in me just went with the flow and followed our guide as he took us through some forested trails to a beachside ride, full of cacti and sand, going up to 40mph at times, to which I sweated/stressed trying to keep up and follow him to not try to tip my ATV over. I followed well, and he kept calling Alex out for being too slow (“You sure you haven’t driven before?!” he said while impressed. “You seem like you’ve done this before!” lol). Our guide was nice and told us stories of the cacti on the island, the trees, and how he guided a group of Justin Bieber and his friends. It was a fun experience for us that gave me a little anxiety controlling that thing and driving way too fast (lol), but it was fun thrilling.

When we got back, we spent the rest of the day at the resort, enjoying the amenities as much as we could before we had to leave. All of our excursions made me just want to chill and enjoy the resort since that’s what we paid for! The pools were great with a beachside bar (something I’ve always wanted to experience), and the tacos and fresh fish and seafood were absolutely amazing. We had all the spicy mango mezcal margaritas. We played bingo and ate snacks. We went to the resort’s All-White Party for their Wednesday night banquet buffet with fire-dancers and dances and songs. It was ratchet and it was fun. And we got to meet other resort-dwellers enjoy the fun.

That next Thursday morning, we soaked up the gym, brunch, and a last minute dip at the pool with all the drinks (lol). It was my first time vacationing or even traveling like this, and I’m so happy I get to celebrate these special milestones with my love. The sun, sand, endless ceviche and cafe de olla will be missed!

And to my love:

My love, if only you could see yourself the way I see you. And I hope this lets you know!

You are one of the most hardworking, kindhearted, gentle souls I know, who often puts work before yourself, but that only shows the kind of person you are. You never fail to show up for me and for others. You make me smile and laugh just by being you, and I thank you for making me take myself and my life less seriously.

Ilysm and hbd my love! Thank you for being you. I hope to continue to bring as much light into your life as you do mine. To more adventures with you ❤️

With love and honesty, and all the love in the world, (I hope you all get to know and feel a love like this 🥰)

Rachel
