Kacey Musgraves goes deep with “Deeper Well” and new album announcement

I wasn’t expecting to feel so emotional this morning.

Country artist Kacey Musgraves just dropped the titular track “Deeper Well” to her upcoming album of the same name, due March 15, and it’s beautiful. The song ushers in a new era for the singer-songwriter, whose Grammy-winning album Golden Hour (2018) still lives on in many of our hearts and ears for its poignant reflections on falling in love and feeling like life is falling into place. Her last album Star-Crossed (2021) chronicled the singer’s journey of heartache and healing post-divorce. Now with Deeper Well, the artist seems to have finally grown up and is in a place of self-discovery and reflection.

“My Saturn has returned
When I turned twenty-seven
Everything started to change
Took a long time, but I learned
There’s two kinds of people
One is a giver and one’s always tryin’ to take
All they can take”

Kacey, who has a gift for unveiling the tender spots in life in a simple and poignant way, has done it again with this single. She goes on:

“No regrets, baby, I just think that maybe
It’s natural when things lose their shine
So other things can glow
I’ve gotten older now, I know
How to take care of myself
I found a deeper well”

The song is absolutely beautiful and hits this point in my life where I’m older and know myself better now, where “things lose their shine” and we outgrew things we used to know or do. Simply, we find ourselves trying to navigate this new sense of self, while still knowing and grappling with who we’ve been all along.

Kacey, you did it again. And that “I used to wake and bake” line was just magic.
