Miley Cyrus – The Backyard Sessions – “Jolene”
What the hey. When did Miley Cyrus ever come out with these so-called “Backyard Sessions”? AND covering these classic rock-driven anthems and good old rock music? My goodness, I’ve always had a soft spot for Miley and have always respected her, but she just got a million x cooler in my book with this cover. From its intimacy presented from the backyard with raw instruments and beautiful sunlit backdrop, there’s so much to love about this girl-gone-mainstream bringing it back home.
She does so well–in my book–when she sticks to her country roots and goes back “home” with beautiful songs like this. From “Jolene” to the head-bopping “Look What They’ve Done To My Song” to the ever-wistful, mysterious and crooning “Lilac Wine,” she has so much to offer to the world of music. She can amaze people with her country, make people get up and feel good with her pop, but also truly explode and hit it hard with rock & roll. She’s so versatile and can do so much good for the world of music…
Much respect Miley. Don’t lose sight of country and the incredibly powerful effect country-music can have on a soul. ❤
