Dia Frampton & Kina Grannis cover Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise” in Cover Mondays

Dia Frampton & Kina Grannis – Cruise (Florida Georgia Line Cover)

Two cutesy singer-songwriter gals, one with a decade of rock tours and televised singing competitions under her belt and the other with acclaimed YouTube-stardom, team up in Frampton’s YouTube project “Cover Mondays” covering “Cruise” by American country-music duo Florida Georgia Line.

This video has been long anticipated as this is Dia’s first well-known pairing in her project. I’ve never been one to really follow YouTube artists and musicians and have never personally been interested in these so-called YouTubers, but this video was beyond cute–a little too cutesy for my liking, though.

It’s hard to believe that Dia came from a past decade as a touring rock music frontwoman with her sister Meg. It seemed that Kina felt more natural throughout the video which ultimately made me like her more-so (so weird to admit!).

But, I have to admit, they added such a nice touch to this song. As the song is a mainstream pop-country song, they definitely add a lot more sweetness and rawness to it which makes me love it a whole lot more than the original. I get a better feeling of the lyrics and the sweeping melodies can take you into another place–much like cruising through your own reverie. Dia adds her infamous vibrattos and stylings when backing Kina, and Kina vibes with Dia’s higher-pitched country-slated voice so well.

Whatever the case, Dia’s got a line of awesome cover videos going on right now, from her first featuring Icona Pop’s “I Love It” to Rihanna and Mikky Ekko’s “Stay” featuring her friend Nutmeg, otherwise known as Jimmy Welsh! [Link to her channel.]

I just would love to see something a bit more angsty from her… That’s what drove me to her and her sister’s music in the first place!
