With successful LA-based indie-folk and said-“cinematic-pop” band Milo Greene‘s debut album last 2012, their crooning melodies and multi-instrumental soundscape charmed enough fans to create a devoted fan base. Milo is still growing and two years later, they are premiering their first song “White Lies” off their sophomore album Control due January 2015.
The song, reminiscent of the darker indie-pop lullabies of MS MR with the dance-pop 80’s-infused electronics and female voices of HAIM, is a far cry from their prior folk and wispy nature of past classics such as “1957.” Though, their future seems promising as they have moved up within their label from Chop Shop to Atlantic Records and are featuring more “danceable” yet commercial indie-pop tunes.
The style of production definitely puts the vocals at the forefront, as we can expect each of the lead vocalists to have their voices highlighted in their new album.
When I talked with them last May, Marlana said of their new sound:
“There’s definitely different sounds, it’s really uptempo. Hopefully danceable–that’s all I care about … The vocals are similar and different at the same time. There’s a lot more clarity to them and everybody gets their turn when they’re singing instead of everybody singing at the same time. So you get to hear like Graham and then you get to hear Andrew and then you get to hear me and then you get to hear Robbie–and then you also get to hear all of us together at a time. So it’s a little bit different in that regard. And it’s just really rhythmic–we just wanted to make something that was kind of moving and rhythmic and I think that’s what we did and I’m really into it.”
Have a listen to their newest song here, conveniently paired with some static visuals and ghosty images of one of four lead singers Marlana. Also, they will be touring with British indie band Bombay Bicycle Club this October, ready to premiere their new songs.
