The one question I hate to be asked the most is: “What is your favorite song?”
One reason is that I have a million favorite songs. (Who doesn’t?!) When people have asked me that question over the years, a million names would cross my mind: songs by Meg & Dia, Fleetwood Mac, Company Of Thieves and countless other influences…
But, one song that always spoke great lengths to me was this one tiny house tune.
I first discovered it when I was in middle school–a time in my life where I was first finding out who I was and learning to become who I always thought I was meant to be. (A time that can also be known as the most “impressionable” years.)
This song was always the first, purest track that simply stuck. It in some weird and strange way captured my philosophy on life and soul–of believing in love and humanity, in life and all… It’s incredibly positive. (Doesn’t sound too far from me either, hm?)
So, I thought I would share this track with you and hope you enjoy it, as well. It’s been somewhat of a decade since I first heard it and the song still sticks. It’s a good reminder to rise and relax, breathe in and out, rise up and touch your soul, and many other souls, when you believe in the universe.
Any thoughts or responses and comments to follow would be appreciated, below.
Life is discovering
The love that we create
Life is a mystery
We need to embrace
In every way
You need to let go
You’ll see all your dreams will follow
In every way
You need to let go
People rise
When they believe
Change the day
This life keeps movin’
And: If you so care, I have a separate tumblr titled “rachelcanhear” (its purpose obvious), which is a collection of media devoted to the songs that speak to me the most–the songs that perhaps will tell you a little piece of myself. It’s the “soundtrack of my life,” so to speak. Have a gander, if you will.
So always let the music speak, grooves fill your soul and music make you feel damn good enough to cry.
Love always and forever,
Rachel
I don’t have a favorite song, but over time there are songs that I’ve most definitely played on repeat…Like Stereophonics Acoustic version (DAKOTA) OR MAYBE TOMORROW
OR Bobby Caldwell “what you won’t do for Love” just to name a few.
Music is great
Totally. Music has a magical way of working its way into our souls to tell us something about ourselves, maybe a little better than we could do ourselves. ❤
Thanks for sharing!
So what song are you working on now? or you going to write one soon?
I’ve had a journal full of unfinished songs… but I always doubt myself maybe a bit too much. Hah!
My favorite lyric:
You know, wishing won’t make it so
Hoping won’t do it
Praying won’t do it
Religion won’t do it
Philosophy won’t do it
The Supreme Court won’t do it
The President and the Congress won’t do it
The U.N. won’t do it
The H-bomb won’t do it
The sun and the moon won’t do it
God won’t do it
And I certainly won’t do it.
That leaves you.
You’ll have to do it.
