Tim Atlas is onto something. The LA-based artist may be familiar to previous Voice fans, but Atlas has been hard at work producing his upcoming EP All Talk — a smooth retro pop body of work that looks to be a solid start for the young singer-songwriter.
Ahead of the release of his EP, which drops March 6th, Atlas opened up for Young The Giant’s side project American Pets last Friday night. His set evoked all retro funk grooves powered by the incredible musicianship of guitarist/producer Jesse Barrera (My American Heart) and Atlas’s full live band.
“When you hear that someone is ‘Talk,’ it means that they tend to promise a lot, but in the end, they don’t deliver,” Atlas said of his EP. “This record is about backing our words up with actions, even in the face of fear.”
Atlas debuted his first single “Talk” off his EP, which is a groovy pop anthem full of catchy, glittery guitar riffs and tight electronics that makes you feel as if you are lying out under the California summer sun, driving down in a retro convertible with no direction to be. In the vain of Ed Sheeran meets Toro Y Moi, Atlas’s smooth voice and plainspoken lyrics that say “out of sight, out of mind” evokes the entire feeling of the record.
Atlas is set to perform next in Los Angeles opening for No Vacation at the Hi-Hat on March 9. He will also play a slate of SXSW shows March 13-16.
