In her newest single “Lose Us,” soul-pop singer Rozzi sings:
“I got a million thoughts about you a day
Face to face I got nothing to say”
The single, released at midnight last Friday, is the next installment and third single to be released from the artist’s long and highly-anticipated debut record Bad Together, coming this November.
Featuring accompanying vocals from long-time friend and Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying, the song is a fun and infectious pop number that highlights the two friends’ soulful voices, singing and riffing off each other in a tight jazzy number, with gospel choirs and their singular voices in a song that talks about the growing distance between two ex-lovers, questioning, “Looking at you, my old best friend / Is this a phase, is this the end?”
In an interview with New York’s Fresh 102.7 earlier this year, Rozzi explained the impact being signed to Maroon 5’s Adam Levine’s record label at the age of 19 had on her.
“I did lots of amazing things and learned lots of amazing things,” she said. “It was so scary and really heartbreaking honestly … Something that didn’t go the way you hoped, but it ended up being this wonderful blessing because it forced me to really listen to the voice in my head that knew there was more to me as an artist and as a person.”
“I didn’t need someone to tell me to work harder, I needed someone to tell me to go live my life.”
She continued: “I just didn’t know myself yet … My new manager [at Small Giant Records] realized he didn’t need to push me to work. He needed me to be like, ‘Girl make some mistakes and go feel some things.’ If you’re going to be an artist you can’t just have blinders on and just work on being a great singer. You have to have experiences, or else what’s the point of what you’re talking about?”
Rozzi’s debut album Bad Together arrives on Nov. 16, 2018 via Small Giant Records.
