It was a warm, dark Wednesday night in Hollywood..
Dia Frampton (Meg & Dia, The Voice) and Brian Logan Dales (Dales, The Summer Set) took to the stage to put on their best Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter’s in Walk: The Musical, inspired by the 2002 Nicholas Sparks classic A Walk To Remember.
Jamie: You don’t know the first thing of being someone’s friends.
Landon: I don’t want just to be your friend.
Jamie: You don’t know what you want…
Landon: And neither do you! Maybe you’re too scared that someone might actually want to be with you.
Jamie: And why would that scare me?
Landon: Because you can’t hide in your book, in…in your freakin’ telescope, or your faith… [Jamie turns away] No, no…you know the real reason why you scared? It’s because you want to be with me, too.
I have to say, as both Dia and Brian are natural performers and front(wo)men, their voices truly shined. They and the cast of Walk, directed by Jordan Ross, sang some of their best 90s-2000s pop-rock classics, including Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated” and Hoobastank’s “The Reason.”
As songs wove throughout the dialogue and scenes from the movie played right back through my head, it was a pretty fun and nostalgic night.
I’m happy I was able to snag a last-minute seat as the three night three show run of the show sold-out instantly.
Here’s a clip I managed to take (because although I do not like to record too often as I try to stay as “present” as I can, this was a sweet moment) <3:
