Kollaboration’s Empower Weekend highlights AAPI talent

Kollaboration Star 2017 guest performance by Jennifer Chung, Tim Atlas and Melissa Polinar. Aratani Theatre, Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, Los Angeles, CA. 11/5/2017.

Kollaboration — one of the biggest platforms for highlighting AAPI talent — brought a weekend full of empowering Asian American artist, singers, songwriters, writers, entertainers, filmmakers and influencers to Los Angeles this past November.

Since 2000, Kollaboration has provided a platform for young Asian Americans to showcase their talent onstage. Beginning with one show in Los Angeles, it has now spread to 15 shows in 13 cities across North America.

“I’m proud that we’ve been a gathering place and a stepping stone of growth for the API creative community and the API community at large,” Kollaboration Executive Director Minji Chang said in an email previously. “I believe that the movement we’ve been building over the years, in all its shapes and forms, all the successes and failures, has had an intangible but priceless impact on the API identity.”

I had a chance to catch 3 out of 4 of their events the first weekend of November.
