Hayley Kiyoko Debuts Queer Pop Single “Feelings” (Music Video)

Hayley Kiyoko is the definition of badass.

In her one-take video for her debut single “Feelings,” Kiyoko dances her way to a woman she has her eye on. The moody night vibes and neon colors match the song’s dreamy and infectious pop chorus.

I over-communicate and feel too much
I just complicate it when I say too much
I laugh about it, dream about that casual touch
Sex, fire, sick and tired of acting all tough
I’m hooked on all these feelings
I know exactly what I’m feelin’
This love asylum, like an island, just me and you
You spent the night, you got me high
Oh, what did you do?
I’m hooked on all these feelings

The video, directed by Kiyoko herself, is sure to set Kiyoko off right. The Disney queen (Lemonade Mouth) turned pop star and queer icon is on her way to release her debut album early next year — and with a song like “Feelings,” she’s sure to get us all feeling things.

The song and video makes us remember what it’s like to crush on someone. It’s a testament to putting queer and lesbian relationships on the map as Kiyoko, who identifies as LGBT, has not been shy to share these themes in her work (“Girls Like Girls”).

Nonetheless, “Feelings” has us feeling all the right things. It’s poppy, catchy, oozes with this cool, retro dreamlike scene and Kiyoko’s knack for the screen is apparent as she dances and sings her way through queer pop icon.

I’m a fan. And I can’t wait to see what’s next in store for Kiyoko.
